SAM
The
SAM model 940 is a hand held device from PGT and includes a detachable
scintillation detector, NaI or Brillance. The NaI versions are available with a lithium glass scintillator imbedded in the front of the NaI, allowing for simultaneous nuetron and gamma detection.
The
SAM has several firmware and logic enhancements that separates it from the average hand-held identifier. The dispaly is non-linear becasue while the spectrum is collected with a standard linear electronics package, the firmware uses a transform called QCC to modify the spectrum and assign an equal number of channels to each peak. The result is a greater peak to background ratio and better peak separation. This results in faster and more accurate peak ID. 940 also performs a background subtraction about once per second.
